By Suzanne Collins. I have also watched the movie and I'll tell you about my first reaction to the movie.
My friend picked the movie. I had not watched the trailer or even heard people talk about it. It was still the first few days when it was released. The movie for me, was fast paced and as we know not every detail is included in movies. During the early stages I was sitting there thinking, 'This tribute thing and having odds in your favor sounds like Idols or something only if the odds are not in your favor you will not be coming back for season two or any season after that.' I was right.
Now after reading the book I understand more about the bird on the golden pin and about Haymitch. I decided to write this before reading the next one. However the next movie in the installment is out so in all the hype and what-not I saw a snippet of an interview with Josh who plays Peeta. He was asked if he thought such living conditions could happen in real life and his answer was yes. I just raised an eyebrow to that. Laugh with me please or cry whatever suits your fancy.
When I watched the movie one of my biggest questions was, 'Why do they get Haymitch as their mentor?' I liked him both in the movie and book. Now the story is one where people are fighting to survive everyday unless of course you are from the Capitol. This fight is highlighted even more with the yearly hunger games. It seems there is no hope.
The irony of the fight for survival in these games is heart breaking. They are not fighting against the enemy. they are fighting among themselves to survive and that really seems to be the only option. There is hopefully always a character like Claudius who gives our protagonist chances no one thought possible. There is also mixed feelings when something happens to them unless you decide whether or not they are good or bad regardless of what happens to them.
It's well written. Makes you laugh, feel sad but most of all right to the last page leaves you wanting more because for sure the fight is far from over. I am now getting ready to cosy up with Catching Fire will watch the movie but definitely after reading the book. Five stars! Anyone else read or watched the Hunger Games? Your thoughts please.
