Audrey Niffenegger. I read this book and watched the movie. I have to say I have been hesitating to review this one. A bit of mixed feelings on this one.
I read the book first and thought it was a good concept but there was just something missing. It did not hit the spot. When the movie came out I hesitated watching it too. So after watching the movie about fifteen minutes of silence from me, ok maybe five and I was able to contribute to the conversation that was going about it.The five minutes were spent reminding myself movies can't portray all the details in the book and not everyone has read it.
Safe to say it did not add much for me except maybe for Eric Bana. The reason I went to watch it maybe? That's something right? I loved the whole traveling through time angle given in this story. Something different. It is not like the glamorous time machine, choose your destination and time. Okay so an accident was somehow involved but it's a bit different. No nuclear here.
When I had understood Henry's condition I kind of hoped someone had put a big tragedy tag to warn me. Clearly there is no way random popping up can end up in a good way. You kind of keep hoping that it isn't so. He has survival skills, surely that will help right? There are doctors in there too. Something has to work right?
I had a hard time connecting with Clare. I guess the only thing that would make her character most memorable for me is how much she loved Henry. Enough to wait for him all that time even though he told her not to. I also thought that was really bittersweet. People usually do things they are told not to after all.
No matter as you are reading the book you find yourself cheering them on and hoping things work out for them. Overall I would recommend this book, about four stars. I would love to hear from those who watched the movie or read the book.
