The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

By John Boyne. Before I go any further I'll just mention that I have not watched the movie based on this book. Will I watch it? Maybe.

Ok so I got this book and had no idea what was in the movie. Still haven't watched the trailer. Maybe I'll do that after finishing this review. I read the back of the book to try and get what the story is about. After reading it I thought sounds like one of those preteen or teen experiences of friendships gone wrong when you move to a new neighborhood.

I was both right and wrong about this. It's a completely different level. Most of the story is taken in Bruno's point of view. A child surrounded by grown ups and being as young as he is 9 decides to explore the place. Adults aren't the only one who need their own space. Right?

As it turns out this book set in Berlin 1942 is a Holocaust story with a heart-rending end. No room for being  on the wrong side of the fence in this one. When I got to the end of the book. I could not believe it. I stared at the page for ages.

Through out the story the author took you to all the places. You could see it all. I believe that's called vivid story telling. I could tell as the end drew closer because I had that feeling you get while watching horror films. The wierd music is playing in the back ground and the character is going to open the door. Of course your yelling for them not to do it does not change their fate. Still when the inevitable happens it's shocking.

I would love to wear my pajamas all day long and am glad it's not 1942 and also they have no stripes.

    1. It is a bit sad but I would not say worse than Anne Frank. It's worth giving it a shot!
