Black Beauty

A timeless classic. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. I have read this book over and over. The first being a library copy a green hard cover book ages ago. I thought interesting that it should have a black cover instead. It is written in simple and clear language.

Over the years from when it was originally published in 1877 it has come in many different covers with different kinds of illustrations to it. However the story remains the same. From Black Beauty's point of view it tells of different characters he met both people and animals alike. It tells of the many life lessons he gained from all the experiences and there is a happy ending for him though the same can not be said for some he came across in his life journey.

Writing a review for this book is so hard. Trying to decide where to start. A heartwarming story about the coming of age of Black Beauty and how he remains true to himself even when faced with life's harsh realities (movie guy voice). A little kindness goes a long way they say. In this story it shows exactly how far it can go and that is regardless it's between people or people and animals.

In the short author biography of the book it says, 'the aim was to promote better treatment for an animal often ill used in industrial activities and leisure pursuits.' There are so many ways then and now treatment of animals can be improved. Black Beauty just provided a glimpse from the other side as it were.

The picture below is my copy of the book. When I saw it at the book store I could not resist picking it up and taking it to the counter. Talk about impulse buying. Definitely worth it. It's a story I highly recommend.

So in want of writing a book on Black Beauty there is one already Read it! Five stars!
